White Water Adventure

River reading, scouting, communication as well as rescue skills are given high priority in this course. Paddling skills will be covered progressively in order to build confidence and judgment.

Another 2 days of the course will be spent on the theoretical and practical requirements for the Swiftwater First Responder qualification. This is a certified course by Rescue 3 International, the recognized world leader for swiftwater rescue training..

The objectives of this course are :

• To be able to handle inflatable kayaks with good paddling techniques and to be able to maneuver the craft with sufficient skill in rapids of up to Grade 3.
• To develop a sense of confidence, self-awareness and necessary river skills so as to be able to negotiate river hazards and obstacles at various water levels.
• Have a sound working knowledge of whitewater river dynamics and water-related physiology.
• Have a working knowledge of all equipment used.
• Have knowledge of river running leadership and incident management.
• Understand swiftwater rescue team organization and the response of the victim.
• Be able to ford shallow and fast-moving water by swimming, using water craft and other techniques.
