Customs Regulations in Malaysia

The following goods are not dutiable and may be brought in or obtained anwhere in Malaysia free of duty: Fountain pens, cigarette lighters, reading materials, perfume, skincare products, cosmetics, portable radios weighing less than 10kg, watches, clocks, pocket calculators, cameras, flashbulbs, flashlight, film in rolls, video tapes, cinema cameras, projectors, sound recorders, and players for films less than 16mm width and double 8mm film video cameras.

The following goods are exempted from duty for visitors staying in Malaysia more than 72 hours: wine and liquor not exceeding 1 litre; tobacco not exceeding 225gms or 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars; footwear not exceeding 1 pair; apparel not exceeding 3 pieces; portable hygiene not exceeding 1 unit each; food preparations not exceeding RM75 in value; soaps and dentifrice not exceeding RM200 in value; souvenirs and gifts not exceeding RM200 in value (unless bringing from Labuan or Langkawi where value shall not exceed RM500).

For goods that exceed above limits, a 30% duty will be charged. Exports of antiquities and historical objects require an export license from the Director-General of Museums & Antiquities of Malaysia.

Trafficking of illegal and illicit drugs carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
