Booking Contract

When you book with us we give you a Booking Contract. The Booking Contract is the most important document you need when you are booking any holiday, anywhere and with any operator. It establishes your rights under the rule of law. When you book a holiday with Discover Borneo you are protected under Malaysian law (which closely follows British law).

In addition, we are proud to say our company policy is only to engage in ethical business practices. We want our clients to be more than satisfied with our impartial advice, expertise, and services, so that at the end of the day they go home happy and recommend us to their friends.

Travel Insurance

We also insist all travelers have adequate travel insurance to ensure safety and security. We strongly recommend travel insurance, and we strongly suggest you understand in detail what your travel insurance covers, and what it doesn't, before you decide what coverage is appropriate for you. Coverage varies depending on the provider.

The most common risks that are covered by travel insurance are:

  • Medical expenses
  • Emergency evacuation/repatriation
  • Return of a minor child
  • Repatriation of remains
  • Trip cancellation/interruption
  • Delayed departure
  • Delayed baggage (and emergency replacement of essential items)
  • Legal assistance
  • Personal liability and rental car damage excess
  • Accidental death, injury or disablement benefit
  • Overseas funeral expenses
  • Curtailment
  • Loss, theft or damage to personal possessions and money (including travel documents)

In addition to actual insurance, most insurers have emergency assistance services that will assist you if your passport and other travel documents are lost or stolen, provide the names and addresses of medical and legal help in foreign countries, etc. They may provide helpful concierge services, often 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency travel assistance.

Optional coverage:

Some travel policies will also provide cover for additional costs, although these vary widely between providers.

Some travel insurance suppliers have added coverage for business related interruptions, such a being required to work during the trip dates, military re-assignment or leave revocation, various damage to a business locations and similar problems. Bankruptcy of travel suppliers may also be included, as may be terrorist incidents at home or abroad. Usually, the insurers cover pregnancy related expenses, if the travel occurs within the first trimester. After that, insurance coverage varies from insurer to insurer.

Some travel insurances can provide cover for risky activities such as sky diving, bungee jumping, hang gliding, scuba diving, etc. For Scuba Diving we recommend specific insurance coverage, for example insurance by DAN / PADI.

Usually, separate insurance would need to be purchased for:

  • Sports with an element of risk
  • Travel to high risk countries (due to war or natural disasters or acts of terrorism
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Kidnap and ransom insurance

Common exclusions:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • War or terrorism - but some plans may cover this risk
  • Injury or illness caused by alcohol or drug use.
