REDANG ISLAND

Like Pulau Tioman, Redang Island is a paradise for beach lovers, notable for its clear waters, excellent scuba diving and snorkeling. Located an hour by boat from the mainland, the island is also an important conservation site for sea turtles.

The Redang archipelago comprises 9 islands, amongst them Redang Island, the most famous and one of the largest islands of the Malaysian East coast. The islands of the archipelago and Redang Island as well have been gazetted as a Marine Park. Therefore the deep waters offer an abundance of beautiful corals and snorkeling and diving activities are not to be missed.

In contrast to the nearby Perhentian islands, Redang has a more developed, livelier, and more upmarket image as most of the accommodation on the island is resort-based with packages offered that are essentially resort-packages.

It is important to know that all the resorts are closed from November to March, due to the monsoon.

While you are snorkeling or diving, do not forget that there are some rules to follow.

Stay close to the group you are with. If you do not feel well, do not hesitate to stop the activity. And never forget the most important rule: never touch the coral. This rule applies for the coral’s and your safety. The slightest contact can harm them and yourself as you could be stung or cut. Take your time while in the water and be aware of what surrounds you, and of where you put your fins. It is common sense but do not chase marine life as well.
