Kuala Terengganu is the capital of the Terengganu state, located in the Northeastern part of the country. Malays consist of 90% of its population, the rest is Chinese and Indian community. Hence it is important to understand that there is not much of nightlife as alcohol is prohibited by the Muslim religion. If it is often chosen by the tourists to be the departure point for Redang Island, Kuala Terengganu has also good and typical malaysian features that really worth the visit.

Chinatown

Chinatown is a lively and colorful row of buildings, where you can purchase local souvenirs and have a taste of savory Chinese delicacies. It is one interesting activity to do in Kuala Terengganu as the impression that emanates from this area is one of nostalgia. The wooden and old shophouses create a typical Chinese atmosphere. Wandering around in Chinatown is a memorable experience. So, do not forget to take your camera as there are a few spots where you can have panoramic views.

Pasar Besar (Big Market)

Located next to Chinatown and following the river is the Pasar Besar of Kuala Terengganu. It is a popular place where you will not resist to buy some fresh fruits (mango, coconut, etc) and other tasty dishes. This place is perfect either for shopping (handcrafts, batik, etc) or simply have a good sample of the life of Kuala Terengganu.

Floating Mosque

About 4km out of Kuala Terengganu is the beautiful illusion of the Floating Mosque. It looks like the place floats on the water, hence its name. Attracting locals and tourists it is an icon of Terengganu state.
